Injuries

Report any and all injuries to a coach. If a child is hurt during a practice of match an accident form must be completed and turned into the Park and Recreation Department. It is important that we are made aware of any and all injuries that happen. Wrestling is a physical sport there is always a chance that a child may be hurt. We do everything we can to minimize the risk of injury.

Special Notes

Try to get involved - wrestling is a close knit sport, and you will meet people from not only all across the state, but across the nation. Fellowship and fun are rampant throughout this great sport, and there is nothing like being around people who understand discipline, hard work, professionalism and success. We are looking for several organized people to become involved in all aspects of the club. During the year we may have events to raise money to benefit the sport of wrestling, we need each parent to do their part.

This year we may have a photo company that does the pictures come and take our team and individual photos. I hope you will consider purchasing even just a team picture for your child’s keepsake. Please make sure you have you team shirt and singlet on. We will not wear our headgear for pictures. The night will be announced at practice and on the website.

Info About Matches

We try to have everyone wrestle during team matches. Matches are determined by the weight of each wrestler that both teams have. We try to keep weight within 6% of each wrestler, however, we also evaluate the skill level of each wrestler. We also don’t want someone to be out matched and try to have even matches by skill. This is sometimes difficult and as hard as we try a match may end very quickly due to a pin. A visiting team that does not have enough wrestlers will require us to wrestle teammates.

Never leave the match without letting a coach know, please ask before leaving. We able to get people 2 and 3 matches at some meets. Please don’t assume just because you wrestled once you are done. It will depend on how many wrestlers the other team has and how many officials we have. We will always try to get two matches for your child. It all depends on the weights and number of wrestlers that other teams bring with them.

Info on Tournaments

Tournaments will be held across the state of Connecticut throughout the season typically every Sunday. You are not required to attend all the tournaments. This is strictly up to the wrestler and parent. We do require that you attend a minimum of 3 tournaments this year. Tournaments typically carry an entry fee of $12 per tournament. Entry fees will be collected by a Newington Blackhawk Coach or Manager, via cash or check and must be turned in after the Thursday night practice prior to that week’s tournament. If payment is not received by the respective date, your child cannot attend the tournament.

Wrestlers will be required to wear their singlet at weigh-in. Another suggestion for Tournaments, is all wrestlers will have their shoe laces taped or tied down by shoe lace guards. Once your child is entered in the tournament, your entry fee is not refundable for any reason. We are responsible for payment, and we cannot afford refunds. Flyers will be available listing the location, time, and schedule for each tournament. You will also be able to get this information off our website if made available to us in time... check back often under updates.

It will be the responsibility of each parent to get their child to tournaments. Weight loss is not recommended and is discouraged unless that weight loss is due to natural occurrences such as good diet and loss of excess fat.

Guidelines for Uniforms

In order to make the uniforms (singlets) last we need you to take good care of them. Please follow these guidelines in caring for them! We need them to last awhile!

Always wash uniforms - never dry-clean them. Dry cleaning can discolor your uniforms.

For best results, launder uniforms immediately after each wearing. Uniforms that cannot be cleaned promptly should be hung individually on wooden or plastic hangers. Metal hangers will leave rust marks. ALWAYS WASH SEPARATELY! DO NOT WASH IN HOT WATER - ALWAYS USE COLD!

For best results in drying, hang on plastic or wooden hangers and let hang dry. If dryer is used set for AIR ONLY and turn uniform inside out. NO HEAT!

Team singlets will be available for checkout. If lost or not returned a $45 fee must be paid to the Newington Blackhawks.

Parents will sign a Uniform and Headgear Agreement upon receiving their equipment.
