2005 - Last Year's Record-setting results!

2005 - A Record-Setting Year
for Blackhawks Wrestling!

Newington-area youth turned out in record numbers for the 2004-2005 wrestling season.  An expanded and experienced staff of coaches and managers combined with a group of committed parents to push last year's team roster to almost 70 participants!

Home match vs. Southington

Results of Blackhawks at States - 2/27/05

Novice / Schoolboy:
33 wins, 33 losses, 5 placers, 3 medals.  Mike Serravalle took Silver, Tanner McKelvey and Lucas took Bronze, Justin and James Bachand took 4th place. Several other Blackhawks went 3-2 or 2-2, wrestling very well, but coming up just short on “hardware.”

Bantam and Midget:
Overall record was 11-19, with 5 placers and 3 medals. Cole Souza took gold, Brandon Zotti wrestled back for true second, going 4-1 and taking Silver, Chris Chorzepa ends with Bronze, wrestling the toughest match in wrestling - the 'wrestleback ' for true second, which has to be wrestled shortly after you lose the gold medal match -- A great ending to his FIRST year by medaling at states! Also on a positive note, Joe Guerrera did place forth, leaving us with 5 placers and 3 medals from the younger BLACKHAWKS

Many young Blackhawks got valuable States experience, and next time will know what it's like. Overall, it was a great effort, and very good results, for a very young Blackhawks team. MANY of our wrestlers were on the younger side of the bracket (i.e. 10 in the 10-11 NOVICE class, 8 in an 8-9 MIDGET class, etc.)
